AirAsia MOVE and
ASEAN Business and Advisory Council Officials at the launch of the ASEAN Explorer
Pass in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
April 25, Manila - Capital A Berhad's digital initiative, AirAsia MOVE (previously known as AirAsia Superapp), is making significant progress in securing its status as an online travel agency (OTA) platform that promotes and links the ASEAN region.
The CEO of AirAsia MOVE, Nadia Omer, and Capital A Executive Chairman Tan Sri Tony Fernandes announced on April 25, 2024, that the two organizations would be working with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) to promote business and tourism opportunities in the ASEAN region through the ASEAN Explorer Pass, the company's flagship product.
With the help of the ASEAN Explorer Pass, travelers will find it easier to see more places, learn more about the many cultures of the ASEAN member states that AirAsia serves, and do new things. Deeper cultural contacts, increased tourism potential, and economic growth are the goals of this strategic project.
The pass is intended to encourage longer stays, multiple visits, and higher travel frequency. It provides visitors with a flexible and affordable method to explore multiple places within the ASEAN area through one platform, AirAsia MOVE.
Tan Sri Nazir Razak, Chairman of ASEAN-BAC Malaysia, Fernandes and Omer, as well as Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Chair of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers, officially introduced the ASEAN Explorer Pass.
With the Asean Explorer Pass, customers can take advantage of zero-base fares on AirAsia airline group's international flights within Asean regions, as well as unlimited use of a special promo code that can save them up to 50% on hotel reservations across all 900,000 hotels in the region, in addition to AirAsia ride benefits.
The AirAsia MOVE app is the only place to get the ASEAN Explorer Pass with its special discount pricing of PHP13,488 till April 30. The pass will revert to its initial cost of PHP 14,888 after April 30.
"For over two decades, Capital A's aviation business, AirAsia, spearheaded connectivity in ASEAN by enabling people from all walks of life, especially from secondary and tertiary cities across the region to have access to affordable flights," said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Executive Chairman of MOVE Digital. To go even further, AirAsia MOVE, an OTA, can support the goal of linking ASEAN by enabling a smooth travel experience and providing passengers with readily available options that meet their needs.
We are pleased to present the brand-new ASEAN Explorer Pass, which is AirAsia MOVE's flagship offering. This pass is genuinely intended to facilitate travel to ASEAN locations, particularly undiscovered treasures spread throughout the region, which go beyond the well-known Tier-1 cities and popular destinations like Bali, Bangkok, and Phuket. Go explore with the ASEAN Explorer Pass; there's bound to be a seat available for you somewhere in ASEAN.
Over 80,000 foreign flights are redeemed and flown each year, demonstrating the strong demand for travel within the ASEAN area, according to data from prior travel passes sold by AirAsia MOVE in December 2022. Enabling intra-ASEAN connectivity and accessibility to essential travel essentials like flights, hotels, and transportation is critical as ASEAN continues to grow as a significant hub for international trade and investment. Through AirAsia MOVE, Capital A is pleased to make it possible for more people to fully experience the varied landscapes of ASEAN.
"On behalf of ASEAN-BAC, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to AirAsia and AirAsia MOVE for this remarkable achievement," said Tan Sri Nazir Razak, Chairman of ASEAN-BAC Malaysia. The introduction of this pass is evidence of our shared goal of an ASEAN without borders, where obstacles are replaced by flights and bridges, and a celebration of our diversity as our greatest asset. In 2023, ASEAN welcomed 100 million foreign visitors, representing 70% of pre-pandemic levels. We are optimistic that AirAsia MOVE's efforts will significantly increase travel and boost the region's economy.
The redemption period for those who bought the "Asean Pass" in March 2024 will be extended to May 6, 2025, allowing them to travel until May 20, 2025. All current holders of Asean Passes will be affected by these changes starting on May 7, 2024. When converting to an "ASEAN Explorer Pass," holders of the ASEAN Passes who wish to redeem domestic destinations in nations other than their own (based on the nationality listed on their passport) will be subject to SST charges.
